Mrs. Laffey’s Grading Policy
Grades
Grades will be entered using Aeries. You can receive updates on your student’s progress via Parent Portal. I highly encourage every parent and every student to check Parent Portal often. I have gone over the process of signing up on parent portal in my classroom, and each student has logged in.
Grading will be weighted as follows:
Formative Assessment 50 % (Classwork, Homework, Notebooks, Quizzes, Behavior, Small Projects)
Summative Assessment 50 % (Tests, Large Projects)

Math and Science
- Assignments are due the day after they are assigned.
- Spiral Math will be accepted for 1 week after the assignment was originally due.
- Students who are ill are responsible for making up any and all missed assignments. Students have as many days to complete the assignments as they were ill.
- Classwork assignments that are not completed in class should be completed as homework and are also due the following day.
- It is the student’s responsibility to make up any late assignments.
- It is not the teacher’s responsibility to remind the student what is missing.
- Students can borrow notes from the teacher or a friend to make up missed notes.
- Students should check parent portal or can check with the teacher to see if they are missing an assignments.
- Students will receive three homework passes per semester. These can be used for a daily homework assignments (not for projects or larger assignments). Once the passes are used, students will receive a zero for not having an assignment completed on the due date.
Tests
- Tests and quizzes are weighted as 50% of the grade.
- All tests are open notebook (but not open textbook). This does not mean that students don’t need to study. They need to study for each and every test.
- Retakes (taking the test again due to a low score) are not permitted under any circumstance, as students should prepare for the test BEFORE the test is given.
- Students are given at least 3 days notice before every test, unless it is a Pop Quiz.
- All tests, regardless of grade, need a parent signature. (5 points for first day returned, one point less for each day test is not returned up to 5 days).
- Students are required to record assignments and reminders in their agenda on a daily basis.
- Students will earn 5 points per week for having their agenda signed by a parent/guardian each week. Signatures will be checked on Fridays.
